Katherine "Katie" Clift Wine set numerous pitching records during three seasons at Barry. She held seven career records and seven single-season records as a pitcher, as well as one season record as a batter. Among her career records were lowest earned run average, total strikeouts and no-hitters. Her single-season records included most victories (25), earned run average (0.42) and shutouts (13). Clift was the top pitcher on Barry’s 1994 team that reached the Final Six of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Her performance earned her the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year Award. She was named SSC All-Conference in 1993 and 1994.
Wine’s career totals are quite impressive: 57-22 record, 499 innings pitched, 0.81 ERA, 364 strikeouts, and six no-hitters as a pitcher, plus a .291 batting average, 46 runs and 40 RBI at the plate. In 1994, she set a Barry record with 37.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run, which was the eighth longest streak in NCAA history. She twice earned dual national honors as an NSCA All-American and a GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 1993 and 1994. She was named Scholar All-American by the NSCA in 1992.
