In 2002, Elam posted a 32-6 record with a 0.28 ERA and 406 strikeouts, leading all NCAA Division II pitchers in strikeouts and ERA and earning the fireballer NFCA/NCAA Division II Player of the Year honors. Her 406 strikeouts, in 2002, rank 11th in NCAA Division II history. She threw back-to-back perfect games in the 2002 South Region tournament, beating Kentucky State and Saint Leo.
