The very first hire for the Department of Athletics when Barry created it in 1983, Dr. Eileen McDonough served as the Faculty Athletics Representative for 40 years, and Barry University for 53. She literally wrote the book on the duties and responsibilities that the NCAA provides to all first-time FARs. She served on a variety of NCAA and FARA committees, including the Executive Committee and Legislative Review Committee, participating in decisions on deregulation, amateurism, eligibility, academic standards, international student enrollment. She helped Barry become the first school to ever have two winners of the prestigious Walter Byers Scholarship and added two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans of the Year, six NCAA Academic Elite awards, 11 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships, 10 NCAA Woman of the Year finalists and 15 Sunshine State Conference Scholar Athletes of the Year.
