MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University senior point guard
Elvar Fridriksson was named a Fourth Team All-American by the
DII Bulletin.
It is the third All-America honor for the Njardvik, Iceland native, who capped his career with a second trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. He received Third Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America's Division II Conference Commissioners Association and
Basketball Times.
Fridriksson, a transfer fom Division I LIU-Brooklyn three years ago, led the Buccaneers in scoring (19.8), assists (7.1) and steals (1.5). He shot 49 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from three-point range. He scored a career-high 43 points in a double-overtime win at Tampa in December. He had 10 assists in five games -- all double-double performances.
Fridriksson finished the season ranked sixth in the nation in assists per game, and Barry ranked fourth at 19.5 per game. He was 10th in total assists (199). He capped his career as the school's all-time assist leader (697), and holds the season record for assists (267). He led the Sunshine State Conference this season in total assists and assists per game. Fridriksson is the school's career assist average leader at 7.7 per game.
He is the school's all-time leader in free throws made (312), and is third in free throw percentage (.836). He ranks fifth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,433 points in three seasons, and is sixth in scoring average per game (15.7). Fridriksson is sixth in field goals made (474), sixth in three-point field goals made (173), seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.387), seventh in steals (136) and eighth in steals average (1.5).
In his four-year career, which included the one season at LIU-Brooklyn, he compiled 1,699 points, 811 assists, 553 field goals, 212 triples, 381 free throws, 389 rebounds and 170 steals in 121 games.
