WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"I think when you get in the tournament, it's all about 'survive and advance.' That's what we did tonight. Now we get to play the #1 seed (Florida Southern) on their home court, so we'll be looking to 'Survive and Advance' again on Saturday." -- Barry head coach Bill Sullivan

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Tampa built an early 11-4 lead, capped by a three-point play by Staja Tyghter at 5:42. But the Bucs rode the hot shooting of Ida Andersson to a 12-4 over the next 3:19 to take a 16-15 lead. The Spartans traded a couple of baskets for a Barbara Cousiño three-pointer to leave the score tied at the break. | Barry 19, Tampa 19
  • 2Q - Andersson continued to dominate in the second period, scoring 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including a trio of triples. Tyghter scored 10 points of her own, but the Bucs lead 36-31 heading into intermission. | Barry 36, Tampa 31
  • 3Q - A layup by Kiara Palmer at the 6:19 mark gave the Bucs their biggest lead of the game, 44-36. Although the Spartans cut into the lead a few times, Stephane Granada's driving layup at the buzzer kept the Bucs in front by six. | Barry 55, Tampa 49
  • 4Q - The Spartans quickly cut the lead to one on a three-pointer by Rachel Warden and a layup by Molly Franson. The Bucs managed to trade baskets after that to maintain the lead. A layup by Cousiño put the lead back to five, 66-61, with 3:43 to play. Tampa countered with a Faith Sanders' three-point play and a jumper by Karma Jeremie in the lane to knot the game at 66-66. But like Tampa did at the end of the first quarter, the Bucs went two-for-one with Andersson hitting a three-pointer and Cousiño a layup around a basket by Tyghter. Despite missing both ends of the bonus free throws, the Bucs kept the Spartans from getting off a last-second shot to preserve the win. | Barry 71, Tampa 68
