MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Boban Rankovic has resigned as head rowing coach at Barry University, effective at the end of the spring 2017 season it was announced today by director of athletics, Michael L. Covone.
Rankovic, along with his wife and family, is relocating back to his native Serbia.
Rankovic led the Bucs to unprecedented heights since taking over in the fall of 2013. In the three seasons prior to the current one, the Bucs captured two Sunshine State Conference titles, in 2015 and 2016, as well as the NCAA Division II National Championship in those years.
The Bucs have produced four All-American rowers and nine CRCA Scholar All-Americans under Rankovic.
Rankovic was the assistant coach of the Buccaneers during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, helping lead Barry to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2013. The Buccaneers won team titles at the Dad Vail Regatta, Knecht Cup, Sunshine State Conference Championships and Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships last season.
Rankovic coached the Varsity 4 crew to a title at the Knecht Cup and FIRA Championships and runner-up finishes at the NCAA Championships, Dad Vail and SSC Championships in 2012.
Prior to Barry, Rankovic, a former Serbian National Team and Olympic rower, served as the interim head coach at the University of Miami and was head coach at Dowling from 2001-2004.
Barry will begin a national search for his replacement immediately.
