Fridriksson Wins 2nd Straight SSC Player of Week Honor

Bucs point guard turns up his offensive game

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Elvar Fridriksson has turned up his offensive game. Now he's being rewarded a second straight week.

Fridriksson, Barry University's 6-foot, 165-pound point guard from Njardvik, Iceland, was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row. He averaged 19 points, nine assists and six rebounds in two Buccaneer wins last week. Fridriksson shot 52 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free throw line in the No. 7 Bucs conference victories.

A transfer from Division I LIU-Brooklyn, Fridriksson had 23 points and 12 assists for his team-leading fifth double-double of the season in a five-point win over Saint Leo Saturday at home. He scored 15 points, grabbed seven boards and had six assists in a five-point win at Lynn Wednesday.

The back-to-back Player of the Week honors are the first in the Iceland native's three-year career.

Barry (19-2, 12-2 SSC) will play at Palm Beach Atlantic 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Barry hosts Tampa 5 p.m. Saturday as part of Homecoming Week. The Buccaneers will hold a special Make-A-Wish event before Saturday's game.

Barry University is one of the NCAA Division II's leaders in Make-A-Wish fundraising efforts. To donate to this year's Make-A-Wish cause to help a South Florida kid in need, CLICK HERE.
