MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Barry women's basketball fell in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament to Tampa 64-55, on Wednesday night at the Fernandez Center at St. Thomas University.
The game had to be moved to St.Thomas due to unforeseen circumstances in the Health & Sports Center, causing both teams to play in unfamiliar territory.
The Buccaneers started out strong in the 1
st period, outscoring the Spartans 15-8 and shooting 53 percent from the field.
In the 2
nd period, UT would make it a tighter game, outscoring Barry 19-14 to make it a 29-27 game at the half.
After halftime, the two teams would scrap back-and-forth, with the Spartans outshooting Barry 58-37.5 percent and tying the game up at 43-43.
In the 4
th, the Spartans would pull away and take the game, outscoring the Bucs 21-12.
Irene Sanchez led the Bucs with 21 points and six rebounds on the night, while
Amra Elezovic was second with 19 points and five boards.
Juhnae Richardson was strong on defense with a team-leading four blocks.
Jackie Perez passed the 1,000 point career mark tonight with her four point effort.
Barry now stands at 19-9 on the year while Tampa is 18-12 and will advance to the next round to face the winner of the Nova Southeastern-Lynn matchup.
